For the last seventeen years, the East Coast Bays Rotary along with North Shore Taxis have hosted the ‘Drive 4 Life’ charity Golf Tournament in support of North Shore Hospital.

This year’s tournament is being held at Waitemata Golf Club, at 12.30pm on Thursday 16 November and will raise funds for the Well Foundation, North Shore Hospital’s official fundraising body, who are fundraising for two reclining medical chairs and a SureSigns monitor for the new ‘Cancer Day Care Facility’ at North Shore Hospital.

After noticing a need for local women in the North Shore community to have cancer treatment options closer to home, North Shore Hospital’s new Cancer Day Care Facility provides Herceptin infusions to local women diagnosed with breast cancer.

For local women living on the North Shore, breast cancer treatment has involved arduous trips into central Auckland to an unfamiliar hospital where they are faced with high parking costs as well as the added stress of trying to find a carpark at an over-stretched hospital.

Over the last year, 53-year-old Lisa Morrissey has been taking the bus from her home in Sunnynook to get to Auckland City Hospital for her treatments.

“To avoid driving in to town, I’ve been using the bus service. But being able to go down the road, just five minutes away and then come home straight after and rest will take a level of stress away from me and my family,” she says.

Last year’s event saw a record 140 entries and raised a whopping $35,000 and you can show your support this year by entering a team of four, sponsoring a hole on the course or donating items for the auction, raffle or player prizes.
